Redesigning the organizational structure of Afghan Ministry of Education
Sr. Technical Specialist (Former Employee) –  KabulSeptember 7, 2017
I was assigned to redesign the organizational structure of Afghanistan Ministry of Education and I learnt a lot about development of proposals. The management team was very supportive of my work since I was paying attentions to the details of my job and also result-oriented. Sometimes, interactions with Afghan government civil servants were difficult since they were afraid of loosing their jobs. I developed the proposal for the organizational structure of Afghanistan Ministry of Education and it was accepted by Afghan government officials and as well as The Asia Foundation.

Good job with an International NGO in the Bay Area.
Program Officer (Current Employee) –  San Francisco, CAAugust 25, 2017
Working with really smart and dedicated people in a mission driven organization supporting international development throughout Asia. A lot of flexibility regarding work hours. A bit old school with systems and internal procedures. A fair amount of autonomy. Opportunities for growth exist if you are able to travel.
Pros
Good benefits, flex time
Cons
Sometimes a lack of transparency by leadership

Research Assistant (Former Employee) –  AsiaAugust 9, 2017
The work the Foundation does is excellent however, and the events organized gather prominent people in the policy world. Staff is busy and unwilling to integrate new team members into the team, there is very little or no team spirit and no training provided.

TAF environment is friendly and ideal for every community development worker.
Area Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Manila, P00February 17, 2015
During first days of work (considered as phase 1), it was described by colleagues as "fast and furious", the need to deliver a running livelihood project on very tight timeline, raised up our adrenaline, but it was done perfectly, thanks to the team work. Three full blown proposals approved in my area of assignment and implemented by partner CSO grantees. Prior to this are preliminary but significant activities, scoping for partners, doing the post disaster needs assessment, coordinating with various groups, mainly the local government units, civil society organizations, and disaster affected communities, organized PDNA presentation, etc.

On the second round, the momentum slowed down, focused in the implementation of livelihood projects, monitoring and evaluation, continuing consultations with the communities and grantees, and did other technical works e.g. canvass and procurement, letter of grants amendments.

Unlike previous experience in employment, TAF management is a "horizontal" non-bureaucratic type, keeping all staff of different level and programs informed of the institutions' situation, where every TAF staff can directly participate in discussions productively.

I belong to a local team (Tacloban City based) with colleagues almost the same wavelength of perspective and experience in development work. The toughest part is donor management, where sometimes things must be set aside to pave way for high level activities.

Similar to my previous engagements, I always find joy in community development work. The satisfaction of every community worker is defined
more... by the impact it will introduce to the communities though well aware of the fact that short-lived development intervention programs, were not enough to provide significant change in the quality of life of the communities. Nonetheless, numerous lessons are learned for both the interveners and communities.  less

Productive and Fun Working Place
Administration Assistant (Former Employee) –  Colombo, Sri LankaJune 4, 2014
Day started with the list of work assigned by the office manager and additional work by other colleagues.

Wide grasp of Administration duties such as attention to detail, multi tasking, answering phone calls, maintaining the diary of the office manager, organising work such as lunches, parties, transport, Preparing budgets.

Management was friendly and warm.

Co-workers were more like a team and had so much of respect among the team. Was easy to complete tasks with such a understanding.

I loved that job. But sometimes there were 2 or 3 lines ringing at the sometime and coordinating the calls were a bit challenging.

I loved the challenges faced cause I learnt that Administration is the heart of any organisation. Also, got to learn every aspect of the organistaion well.
Pros
Free Lunches, Holidays
Cons
Sometimes had to work late.
