Nice place to work
Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee), Sandy, UT – May 5, 2013
Pros: free drinks, and learning how to be a assistant manager.
Cons: the homeless people
-My typical day Mon-Fri was helping customers and making sure everything was stocked. Saturdays and Sundays I would still help customers and also help out with assistant manager duties.

-I learned what to do if I was a assistant manager.

-Management was great.

-Co-workers were great.

-The hardest part of the job was dealing with the homeless people – more... that would try to break in the bathrooms to sleep in them.

-Helping out with the assistant manager duties. – less

Great Work/Live Balance
Corporate Meeting and Events Planner (Current Employee), Houston, TX – April 15, 2013
Pros: work/life blance, benefits
Cons: during my busy times, i wish there were two of me!
Shell really believes in the Work/Life Balance and strives itself in making that a priority while working here. We all have lives outside of the work place, and to work for a company that promotes Work/Live Balance is a refreshing change! I believe this makes a major difference in productivity, everyone needs the opportunity to have down time and to – more... refuel the mind. – less

Imagery Design Consultant (Former Employee), Miami, FL – April 15, 2013
This was a great opportunity to meet others from different parts of the earth. Interact with those & still be able to work with something you love to do. I enjoyed seeing multiple environments that I had to design, working with others & also having the full freedom to work alone.

Working for Shell made me hate myself
Alaska Program Assistant Executive Manager (Former Employee), Anchorage, Alaska – April 9, 2013
Pros: great pay
Cons: crushing guilt
I was attracted to Shell shortly after graduating from college by recruiters who promised great pay, options for advancement, and the chance to work in a groundbreaking, innovative atmoshere. Unfortunately the longer I was there, and the more I learned about what the company actually did, the more disgusted I became with the work. Shell's goal is profit, – more... pure and simple, no matter what the cost. We would be forced to sell an image of safety, responsability, and respect for the environment while behind the scenes the top guys were busy plotting the quickest way to basically destroy one of the planet's last pristine regions, the Arctic. When I asked about the double standard here - telling the outside world we were being safe when inside it was all about moving fast, grabbing opportunities, beating the competition, and crushing opposition in order to make sure we were the first to control the enormous wealth of petroleum in the Arctic - I was told to shut up and mind my own business. I started researching online and realized there are tons of environmental campaigns against Shell and many scientists who say the Arctic must be left alone to stop irreversible climate change. Coming from the energy sector, I KNOW how many renewable and clean energy sources there are that we could develop instead of drilling for oil. It got to the point where I could barely look myself in the eye; I just couldn't bear the thought of what my wife and kids would say if the company I worked for was responsible for a major oil spill or killing off the polar bears. So I quit, and I encourage all current Shell employees to quit as well. If you are thinking about working here, and you consider yourself an ethical person who cares at all about what happens to our world, run in the other direction. – less

Sadness
Online Marketer (Former Employee), Washington, US – April 9, 2013
Pros: free lunch
Cons: no ethical values.
Is job only important for the salary you get? I don´t think so.

Even the salary was not bad (but not great) working in a company which is proud of not be responsible for their own actions is not a thing for me.

After 2 years disastrous performances in the Arctic, they want to be watch as arctic drilling experts. I´m more interested in protecting this – more... important part of the world and save its nature, and wildlife as for instances polar bears, than supporting some CEOs, and investors luxuries.

By the way, I will miss 3 or 4 good people I met there. – less
